Calling citizens of the world… If you’ve ever been curious about how you might use your MSW degree internationally and want to incorporate ethical and foundational social work cornerstones into work and life abroad, come enjoy a fascinating dialogue with Julia Rudick, LCSW and Ered Massie, LCSW! This live-interactive webinar discusses cultural and ethical implications of living and working abroad in social work and related professional mental health-based capacities, including both a micro and macro focus, cultural sensitivity in action, and some how-tos for pragmatic exploration regarding new possibilities.
Amid acculturation, professional transition, as well as practical considerations when planning for and applying US-based social work and related mental health training abroad, specific focus in education-based and private therapy settings will be examined, along with building sensitivity, openness, and understanding of different cultures and professional norms. Learn ways to advance the promotion of client -centered self determination in practice, anywhere in the world your professional life may take you!
Ered Massie is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who earned her MSW in 2012 at CUNY-Hunter College, as part of an intentional career change. In 2019, after living in New York City for nearly 20 years, she took a personal and professional sabbatical, which led to a decision to relocate to Antigua, Guatemala. Throughout her social work career, she worked in outpatient mental health for major hospital systems and community-based nonprofits, pursued post-graduate training in family & couples therapy, and now has a private therapy practice. Ered’s interests and passions include travel (though not in 2020!), learning about the culture and history of her new home through a radical social work/anti-colonialist lens, and her poodle-ish rescue dog named Edgar.
Julia Rudick is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who earned her degree from Hunter College in New York City in 2011. Julia currently lives abroad in Quito, Ecuador where she works as a Middle School Counselor at an international school. Previously, Julia worked in Antigua, Guatemala with middle and high school students; she also held various roles within social service agencies in New York City before moving internationally. Julia is passionate about traveling, spending time outdoors, and working to uplift individuals in vulnerable situations. She has specialized training in family and couples therapy and is also a certified yoga teacher.
