This course explores the complex nature of consciousness through a culturally informed lens. Participants will join Rev. Dr. Karen Herrick will define and examine the Boggle Threshold, a cognitive concept influencing openness to new ideas, considering the role of cultural beliefs in shaping these responses. By analyzing Near-Death Experiences (NDEs) from diverse cultural perspectives, students will investigate the universal and culturally specific aspects of consciousness. Finally, the course will delve into evidence for consciousness and memory beyond the physical body, incorporating an exploration of cultural beliefs and practices related to death and the afterlife. From a Jungian perspective, as we mature, the child archetype becomes known as the unconscious is probed. In this course, Rev. Karen Herrick, PhD, LCSW, will delve into narcissism and the unaddressed vulnerability behind it. We’ll also discuss how the process of listening to the wounded inner child is necessary to accomplish a level of security and empathy that may temper narcissistic characteristics.
