While the detrimental consequences of social isolation have always been acknowledged, the emergence of COVID-19 placed a spotlight on the suffering associated with this kind of isolation. Dr. NaKaisha Tolbert-Banks, DSW, LCSW, LCAC reflects on the lasting impact of social isolation through the lens of the pandemic and beyond. NaKaisha will guide participants through the definitions of social isolation, identifying the role of empathy in how we respond to social isolation among individuals and communities, as well as applying interventions to support those experiencing social isolation in a variety of contexts.

Dr. NaKaisha Tolbert-Banks, serves as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, author, international trainer, and educator. As the owner of the private practice firm D.U.O. EmpowerMEnt Services, she has dedicated her clinical work and research to serving those in under-resourced communities. Through mental health education, therapeutic services provided, and collaborative community partnerships, Dr. NaKaisha has come to better understand the impact that trauma, racism, and systemic discord have brought to those within under-resourced communities. Having attained her Bachelors, Masters, and Doctorate degrees in social work, she believes in working collectively with other willing and able-bodied humans to dismantle disjointed systems and bring healing and restoration to systems and communities. Dr. Tolbert-Banks, as a veteran Social Worker, has dedicated more than 25 years to serving children, families, and communities. She believes that the beauty of each day comes from those she serves and is blessed to receive wisdom from as she believes in the power of reciprocity. Nature, baking, and quiet time with her children and husband bring restoration, allowing her to live out her life’s calling of serving the hearts of humans.
