Is there a recipe for the ability to apologize with sincerity or for letting go of anger and choosing the path of forgiveness? Explore contemporary research on apologies and forgiveness with Deborah Levinson, LCSW! In this moving presentation participants will contemplate the magical words “I’m Sorry”, we’ll identify hindrances as well as helpful components about the value and process of apologizing, effective vs ineffective apologies and cultural norms, as well as forgiving old hurts. New strategies for helping clients seeking to offer apologies or to choose forgiveness for their own growth and development will be presented. In marriage, family relationships, co-workers, and more, we will explore in depth examples of how apology and forgiveness works in our lives.
Deborah S. Levinson, LCSW is a practicing psychotherapist, trained at Johns Hopkins University, and has published research on how people mourn and create a new chapters in their lives following major loss. Mrs. Levinson has presented in a variety of venues across the United States, including Jewish Family Services Santa Barbara, CA, New York Clinical Social Work Society, Greater Washington Clinical Social Work Society, Psychiatric Institute, Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, New York, Johns Hopkins, and U.S. Secret Service Employee Assistance. Mrs. Levinson has also served as an adjunct lecturer at Santa Barbara City College.
