Katie Bingner, MS, LCPC, brings us an ethics-centered and trauma informed approach to managing treatment expectations for clients and practitioners. We’ll discuss the impact of treatment expectations on the therapeutic alliance and clinician effectiveness, as well as corresponding ethical perspectives around managing these expectations and recognizing how they influence clinical outcomes and client-centered practice.

Katie Bingner, MS, LCPC is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor currently providing a warm, welcoming, and collaborative space for adults and couples to address the stresses and struggles of life. With an undergraduate degree in psychology and graduate degree in community mental health counseling, Katie began her work as an intern for a local detention center, earning her a Sheriff’s Salute for providing “superior” individual and group treatment services to this underserved population. Katie went on to work at Patuxent Institution, a maximum-security prison specializing in serving incarcerated individuals with severe mental health struggles. Katie then provided years of services to individuals battling addiction and homelessness, all along the way gathering a plethora of tools, strategies, and approaches to assist survivors of trauma in compassionate and effective ways. Katie now works in private practice and has a passion for teaching – for bringing new ideas and psychoeducation to clients and colleagues, alike. Living by the old adage, knowledge is power, Katie is motivated by the practice of collaborating with clients to support self-determination and autonomy. Katie’s clinical training includes a Complex Trauma Certification Training (Level 1), a Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Course in Applied Neuroscience for Treating Anxiety, Panic, and Worry, an Intensive Certification Course in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and a Compassion Fatigue Certification Training for Healthcare, Mental Health, and Caring Professionals. Additional training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotionally Focused Therapy for Distressed Couples, the treatment of eating disorders, suicide prevention, addictions treatment, Motivational Interviewing (MI), etc. have provided Katie with an extensive, trauma-informed toolbox with which to provide a clinically effective, individualized approach to treatment.
