Educator and youth advocate Dr. Samantha Chung, M.Ed. shares insights using a multidisciplinary lens to address the complexities surrounding young survivors of trauma. Participants will examine potential causes of trauma in youth, recognize the impact of trauma and its manifestations in home and school settings, as well as ways to employ the “4 Rs” framework to assist young people in working through trauma.

 

Samantha Chung is the Assistant Director of Curriculum and Professional Learning at the Black Education Research Collective (BERC) at Teachers College, Columbia University and the founder of the educational consultancy firm Empower(ed) Teaching and Learning. She is also a doctoral candidate in the department of Curriculum and Teaching at TC, Columbia University.
Samantha began her teaching career as an 8th grade ELA and ESL teacher in the New York City Department of Education. She brings over 12 years of extensive classroom experience, supporting teacher leadership, and designing staff development. She is passionate about educational equity for all students and strives to support schools and teachers in achieving academic success. Her research interests include culturally relevant teaching, teacher and student empowerment, and school leadership.
